Gase's 1st move: Jets send LB Lee to K.C.

ESPN reported that Brian Heimerdinger, the Jets' vice president of player personnel, also was sacked as part of the team's front office shake-up. The Jets just allowed Maccagnan to do everything from overseeing the hiring of Gase as head coach to signing Le'Veon Bell in free agency to scouting and drafting all the Jets' new prospects taken in last month's National Football League draft. Maccagnan, who was hired as GM in 2015, was not relieved of his duties this past offseason when coach Todd Bowles was sacked.

The timing is odd considering Maccagnan oversaw the Jets' draft less than three weeks ago, although there were rumors that he and Gase had some tension - which both denied. "It kind of pisses me off a little bit". He was fully involved in the coaching search and hiring Gase to replace Bowles. He also acquired left guard Kelechi Osemele from Oakland in a trade. Safety Jamal Adams and defensive lineman Leonard Williams are also recent draft picks by Maccagnan who have become building blocks for the defense.

The Jets hired Maccagnan in 2015 from the Houston Texans, where he had spent the previous 15 years working up the personnel ladder.

Joe Douglas to the New York Jets is believed, by some, to be a done deal, per Brian Costello of the New York Post.

Lee, 24, was a first-round pick of the Jets in 2016, when the team selected the 6-foot-1, 232-pounder 20th overall out of Ohio State.

If Maccagnan were going to lose this power struggle in the end, it goes without saying it would've been better for the Jets to realize that months ago before making those signings and moving forward with the draft.

Prior to his stint in Chicago, Kelly spent almost a decade in the Denver Broncos personnel department, where he first worked with Gase.
