Los Angeles Lakers might hire this Sixers coach to replace Luke Walton

The Kings have agreed to a deal with Luke Walton that will keep the young coach in Sacramento through 2022-23, Sam Amick of The Athletic reports. Walton is the first choice of general manager Vlade Divac.

Luke Walton outlasted Magic Johnson - by three days. The team will now look to Walton to lead a run into the playoffs for first time since 2005-06. Johnson and Pelinka gave him an oddly constructed roster of idiosyncratic National Basketball Association veterans on one-year deals playing alongside James and several talented youngsters including Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma and Josh Hart.

It did not take long for a clear frontrunner to be identified after Luke Walton's departure as coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.

"This franchise and the city will always be special to me and my family", Walton said in a statement.

Williams has also been linked with the vacant position at the Sacramento Kings, who have opened talks with Walton regarding a meeting to potentially make him their new head coach. He took over after the worst season in franchise history, a season with only 17 wins.

As for how Walton fits with the Kings - it could be a seamless fit. The Hall of Fame point guard was upset with the team's defense and sluggish start but later told the Los Angeles Times and ESPN that Walton would not be fired barring something unforeseen.

Walton, 39, parted company with the Lakers on Friday in what was described by the team as a mutual separation.

The Cavs named Lue head coach in the middle of the 2016 Championship season after the firing of Blatt. I don't think his say-so is like his say-so.
