Trump orders the firing of the U.S. Secret Service Director

U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) secretary Kirstjen Nielsen resigned her post on Sunday, president Donald Trump announced on social media. During her time as Homeland Security secretary, she oversaw widely condemned policies including the forcible separation of families and the caging of children at the southern border.

Nielsen's departure comes after publicly conflicting with the president late last month over USA relations with Central America, and amid media reports that Nielsen did not go far enough in pushing Trump's restrictionist agenda at the southern US border.

For some Trump critics, this was yet another example of the chaos that supposedly reigns in the White House. Both Nielsen and Alles were closely associated with former White House chief of staff John Kelly, who resigned a year ago after falling out of favor with Trump.

A lot of conservatives are angry at Rep. Ilhan Omar today after she tweeted that Stephen Miller, Donald Trump's senior policy advisor, is a white nationalist.

Nielsen had been among the most controversial of Trump's Cabinet secretaries, given Trump's mandate to push boundaries on immigration, an issue that he considers central to his political standing. Vitiello, a Border Patrol guard, had been awaiting confirmation by the Senate.

The official singled out Citizenship and Immigration Services as "the biggest bottleneck" in changing immigration rules, but declined to comment about possible personnel changes at that agency or DHS's legal office. Nielsen submitted her resignation Sunday after meeting with Trump at the White House, and three days earlier, the administration withdrew the nomination of Ron Vitiello to lead Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Unnamed officials who spoke to NBC said Nielsen told Trump the Department of Homeland Security could not act against federal court orders barring the policy, and that Trump would be defying his own executive order past year that put an end to it.

The decision to replace Ms. Nielsen comes as little surprise. But last summer, HHS started receiving babies and toddlers, and there was not enough space to house them, said Jonathan White, the career civil servant tasked by Health and Human Services with helping to reunify children.

Trump has made a clampdown on illegal immigration a centrepiece of his two-year-old presidency, leading chants of "Build that wall" at his rallies as he has sought to cut back on the number of newcomers entering the United States without proper documentation.

And so it seems as if Nielsen's un-resignation was for the sole objective of allowing the president time to remove Grady so that Grady would never be acting secretary, all to make good on a legally misbegotten tweet sent on a Sunday night. "I will continue to support all efforts to address the humanitarian and security crisis on the border".

"I think it would be hard for him to demonstrate he's accomplished anything for the president", the senator said.

"Her letter said "effective April 7"-yesterday".

Last Friday, the President visited Calexico, California, where he said, "We're full, our system's full, our country's full - can't come in!" Further, her family said in December they had no qualms about how US officials treated she and her father once in USA custody. Her agency had already diverted hundreds of border agents away from certain crossings to process migrant families elsewhere, creating what would soon become considerable bottlenecks.
