Kim leads, Spieth and Fowler lurking in Texas

South Korean Kim Si-woo birdied the final hole for a one-stroke lead over Canadian Corey Conners after the third round of the Texas Open on Saturday.

Attempting to thwart Kim s hopes of pocketing the $1.35 million victor s cheque are a chasing pack which includes Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler.

"I've heard, yeah, "Beer garden" and all sort - like people lifting their beer up in the air and going, 'This is you, man, '" Bjerregaard's said after beating Woods, according to Golfweek.

Hoffman played flawless golf with five birdies in his 67, the last of them at the 18th securing him second place on 18 under.

He remained on track with a birdie at the 14th after getting up and down from a greenside bunker and, after holing a clutch 12-footer for par at the 15th, he notched another birdie at the par-three 16th where he almost took out the flag with his tee shot. He recovered from a three-putt bogey at the 15th with a pitch shot to inside three feet to set up birdie at No. 17. He finished five-under 67 to claim second place.

"I just slid under the ball really nicely on that chip shot, landed right on my spot, just trickled in", Spieth said. "That's a big thing with me playing the week before Augusta, trying to check off as many boxes as we can so that we're comfortable with what we're working on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and tee it up Thursday next week".

"I actually look at today as progress", Spieth said. I made those adjustments mid-round and was able to shoot 5 under. Following a pair of top-five finishes at Pebble Beach and Los Angeles, his past three starts have included a missed cut and a tie for 56th.

Spieth fell to Bubba Watson in his final match of group play, failing to land in the Round of 16, which he last made in 2016. He's gone 26 holes without a bogey and has nine birdies along with the ace.

But his round then took a dramatic turn downhill as he bogeyed the next four holes due to a number of untidy shots, his fourth dropped shot at the ninth handing Hoffman a one-shot lead.

Fowler has not played on Tour since he was tied for 47th at the Players.

Kim, appeared to be struggling a little with a rib injury in the closing stages but he still had three birdies in four holes from the 14th after his earlier troubles before bogeying the 18th.

Jordan Spieth is looking for his first victory since the 2017 British Open.
