Suspicion is high as Barr redacts Mueller report

Asked about Trump's thinking on a potential pardon for former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, Giuliani - who represents Trump as his personal lawyer, not as a White House lawyer - said that "yes", he and Trump had discussed pardons "at the very beginning, and decided the whole question of pardons would be put off".

His comment comes as House Democrats have repeatedly called on Attorney General William Barr to release a full report to the public.

Giuliani's comments come just days after The New York Times reported on the upset among some Mueller staffers over Barr's handling of the report - particularly the attorney general's four-page summary that noted there was no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation, and Barr's decision not to proceed with obstruction of justice charges against Trump. Since Mueller punted on the issue, Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein made the decision not to purse an obstruction case since Trump & Co. had been cleared on the collusion question.

Nearly a year before the special counsel concluded his investigation, Barr wrote a memo in which he reached the conclusion that Trump had committed no obstruction of justice and Mueller's probe was "fatally misconceived".

FILE - White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney listens as President Donald Trump speaks during a Cabinet meeting at the White House in Washington. Democratic opponents of Trump in Congress, and some Republicans, have called for release of the full Mueller report, with one Democratic-controlled committee in the House of Representatives last week voting to subpoena the full report and supporting material.

Some reportedly suggested that the final report was actually more damaging to the president than Barr's initial summary suggested.

Barr is working with Rosenstein, Mueller, and their key aides to produce an edited version of the report.

Mueller's entire report and any exhibits and other underlying evidence that the Justice Department might withhold.

Barr's distillation "appears to minimise the implications of the report as to the president", said Nadler.

Russia's Government has denied interfering in the U.S. election. He has previously said he did not believe it would be in the public's interest to release the full document in piecemeal or gradual fashion, and that he did not intend for his letter summarizing Mueller's "principal conclusions" to be an "exhaustive recounting" of the special counsel's investigation.

Mr Barr said he concluded that there was not enough evidence to show that Trump committed any crime.

"The Department of Justice will continue to defend the long established tradition of protecting grand jury information", said spokeswoman Kelly Laco.

"Well, the attorney general said there was no obstruction of justice".
