Chicago to sue Smollett after he refuses to pay

Jussie Smollett's case is far from over despite the fact the State's Attorney's office chose to drop the charges against the Empire actor The City Of Chicago's deadline for Smollett to cough up the $130K for the cost of the investigation is today.

The deadline set by outgoing Mayor Rahm Emanuel for "Empire" star Jussie Smollett to reimburse the city of Chicago for "investigative costs" ends at midnight Thursday; giving the controversial actor just hours to pay the Police Department upwards of $130,000.

A fan takes a selfie with actor Jussie Smollett following his court appearance at Leighton Courthouse on March 26, 2019 in Chicago, Illinois. "The City of Chicago and Chicago Law Department will not have any further comment at this time". "The Law Department is now drafting a civil complaint that will be filed in the Circuit Court of Cook Country", Law Department spokesman Bill McCaffrey said in the statement.

Rob Elgas of ABC -7 Chicago reported that the law department released a statement confirming the lawsuit.

The city won't have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Smollett staged the attack in civil court, only that it's more likely true than not true that he did.

In late January, Smollett told police he was attacked by two masked men as he was walking home from a Chicago Subway sandwich shop at around 2 a.m. Smollett also said the men placed a noose around his neck and poured bleach on him, according to police.

Particularly, the police cite three Foxx policies: Not prosecuting theft felonies under $1,000 in value, or most drivers with invalid licenses or most small marijuana cases. "This is about many cases in the Cook County system that have gone unprosecuted, or having charges reduced". She said she welcomes a federal review of the Smollett case.

Asked why there were no African-American police chiefs at the event, Graham said only that all county police chiefs had been invited.

While he was charged with 16 felony counts in relation to filing a false police report, those were dropped in exchange for his forfeiture of the $10,000 bond and community service served. He said residents needed to know Foxx "is letting them down". Thursday, April 4, is seven days since Mayor Rahm Emanuel's law department sent the "Empire" a March 28 letter demanding he writes them a money order or cashier's check for $130,106, plus 15 cents.

Following the dismissal of the charges, the actor told a news conference: "I have been truthful and consistent on every single level since day one".
