Lakers Limiting LeBron James’ Minutes For Rest Of Season

Now with 32,311 points, the 34-year-old James must maintain his career average of 27.2 points per game - which ranks 4th all-time - to complete the feat within the next 3 or 4 years.

Just eight days ago, James moved into 10th place on the assists list, becoming the first player in league history to make the top 10 in points and assists. The Nuggets (43-21) closed with a 26-12 run to foil a Lakers rally.

Anytime you are able to surpass your idol it is a special moment and James even paid tribute to Jordan with a message on his shoes.

In Wednesday's game between the L.A. Lakers and the Denver Nuggets, James scored his 32,293rd point, getting fouled in the act. "For a kid from Akron, Ohio, that needed inspiration and needed some type of positive influence, MJ was that guy for me".

"Wanted to be like MJ, wanted to shoot fadeaways like MJ, wanted to stick my tongue out on dunks like MJ, wanted to wear my sneakers like MJ". "He was like lightning in a bottle for me".

This achievement was particularly special to James, who grew up in OH idolizing Jordan. He trails Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387 career points), Karl Malone (36,928 career points) and Kobe Bryant (33,643 career points).

James, in his first season with the Lakers and 16th National Basketball Association season overall, is now fourth all-time in scoring in the league's history. He added a lay-in and jumper to match Jordan early in the second quarter and then broke the record soon after.

What it didn't do was convince a couple of James' former teammates that LeBron is anything but a "ball hog". The Lakers, 30-35, are now the 11th seed in the Western Conference and 6.5 games behind the 8th seed LA Clippers.
