Fortnite Ads Pulled From YouTube After Predator Controversy

Fortnite Ads Pulled From YouTube After Predator Controversy

Social media platforms, including Facebook and YouTube, have been used aggressively by anti-vaccination proponents.

YouTube responded to a request for comment Friday afternoon, outlining in an email what the company has done in the last two days to tackle the issue.

"Every quarter we remove millions of videos and channels that violate our policies and we remove the majority of these videos before they have any views", the spokesperson said.

AT&T and Hasbro have become the latest firms to pull adverts from YouTube over claims paedophiles are leaving offensive comments next to videos of children on the platform.

What do you make of Epic Games pulling advertising from YouTube? To belong to the company, among other things, Nestlé, Disney, Dr. Oetker, Kellog's, and Fiat Chrysler.

"Any content - including comments - that endangers minors is abhorrent, and we have clear policies prohibiting this on YouTube", the spokesperson said. The videos Hess has found contain mentions or visuals of self-harm, suicide, sexual exploitation, trafficking, domestic violence, sexual abuse and gun violence, including a simulated school shooting.

In early 2017, YouTube was lambasted over ads appearing alongside racist content and terrorist group videos, prompting Verizon, Johnson & Johnson, and AT&T, to name three notable brand marketers, to temporarily pull their advertising.

But it would do more, it said, such as "turn [ing] off all comments on videos of minors where we see these types of comments".

Nevertheless, it isn't the first time YouTube has faced problems with policing videos that contain comments from child predators.

A video promoting self-harm tips - spliced between clips of a popular video game - has surfaced at least twice on YouTube and YouTube Kids since July, according to a pediatrician and mom who discovered the video. Even when brands have kept off YouTube for a significant amount of time, they haven't stopped paying Google to spread their message on search results and through display ads across the web.

This purge of comments and channel terminations follows after a US man, called Matt Watson, uploaded a video titled YouTube Is Facilitating the Sexual Exploitation of Children, and it's Being Monetised (2019) which caused a huge backlash from YouTuber Keem Star who shared his thoughts on his channel DramaAlert.

YouTube will no longer allow anti-vaccination videos to run ads, reports BuzzFeed News.

Though parents should talk to their children about the videos, Dr Kaslow said, YouTube Kids also should address the issue, explaining to children what the videos were and why children should never harm themselves.
