Heat ship Johnson, Ellington to Suns

Johnson has a $19.1 million player option for next season.

Ellington's agent, Mark Bartelstein, is attempting to get the Suns to waive his client and allow the guard to join a playoff contender, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported. His NBA career average is 11.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists per outing.

For the Suns, they receive another guard to add to their rotation. He also has a 15 percent trade bonus valued at $1 million.

Johnson, 26, went undrafted in the 2014 National Basketball Association draft out of Fresno State.

The trade reduces the Heat's luxury tax for this season from $9.7 million to $1.7 million, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. He played as an essential component of the Heat rotation last season, when he set a Heat franchise record for 3-pointers and National Basketball Association record for 3-pointers by a reserve.

Anderson, 30, has barely played in recent seasons, part of the salary-cap trade from the to the Suns this season. Among the several perimeter players on Miami, Ellington took the biggest hit in terms of playing time.

Anderson, an 11-year National Basketball Association veteran, has appeared in 637 career games (289 starts) averaging 12.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 26.2 minutes while shooting 42.2 percent from the field, 38 percent from three-point range and 85.4 percent from the foul line.

Johnson, an undrafted free agent from Fresno State, started just 10 games for the Heat this season, averaging 10.8 points in 44 games played.
