Battle Lines Drawn Over Corn In Beer After Super Bowl Ads

Battle Lines Drawn Over Corn In Beer After Super Bowl Ads

According to Salesforce's annual Super Bowl report, Bud Light was the most mentioned advertiser across social media during the Super Bowl, and #ForTheThrone was a Top 5 hashtag.

The Bud Light ad featured a giant barrel of misdelivered corn syrup and the quest to find its fightful owner.

In one medieval-themed ad, a Bud Light kingdom transports unwanted corn syrup to castles belonging to Miller Lite and Coors Light.

Bud Light used its two 60-second Super Bowl ads to tout its simple ingredients and surprise viewers with a "Game of Thrones" tie-in - building on the dual taste and transparency messages it's been using since August 2017.

The National Corn Growers Association did not appreciate Bud Lite's campaign and fired off a tweet.

"Bud Light, you're not standing with corn farmers". "Our office is right down the road!"

IL corn farmer Matt Boucher noted on Twitter that most corn farmers probably already know Bud Light wasn't brewed with corn syrup - and many probably don't care. "Thanks [Miller Lite] and [Coors Lite] for supporting our industry".

Bud Light did not respond to the NCGA on Twitter.

"The Bud Light ad says more about their market position than it does about any @MillerCoors products", he wrote.

Nonetheless, the pulled ad didn't affect Bezos' attendance at the Super Bowl, where he was spotted without Sanchez. "Miller Lite has been gaining share for 17 straight quarters and someone's feeling the heat!" The spokesperson did not return a request for comment on how Bud Light's use of rice to differs from including corn.

While high fructose corn syrup has been vilified by some as a common contributor diabetes and obesity, the nation's farmers and agricultural industry began responding nearly immediately, upset at the implication that corn is a product to be completely avoided.

And Anheuser-Busch said in a statement that the company "fully supports" corn growers despite the potshot.
