LG unveils Signature OLED TV R rollable display television at CES 2019

The price for the LG product hasn't been released, but going off the company's $8,000 "wallpaper" OLED TV from 2018, this new television won't come cheap. Pressing a button on the remote makes the OLED screen pop up, unrolling from inside the base over about 10 seconds until it stands as a fully functional, flat 65-inch 4K TV on top of a speaker stand.

Not only is it possible for viewers to consume content in a traditional television form factor, the Signature OLED TV R also provides users with access to "Line View, ' which stows away most of the television's display and presents five modes of use, including 'Music, ' 'Clock, ' 'Frame, ' 'Mood" and 'Home Dashboard'.

LG's latest rollable TV features three different viewing modes.

Moving down to 4K UHD, the company is debuting something called Crystal Motion OLED in a 65 inch display, which is said to have the world's fastest MPRT (Motion Picture Response Time) of 3.5 milliseconds. "The panel is of 65" dimensions - we now don't have any more information about the technical specifcations of the panel, other than it is seemingly powered by LG's newly announced second generation Alpha9 SoC.

Another feature of the TV punted by LG is its built-in sound system, which packs 4.2-channel output (100W) and support for Dolby Atmos.

iPhone or iPad users can now easily play videos from iTunes or other video apps to the LG TVs without the need for Apple TV streaming console. The Smart TV from LG comes loaded with Amazon Alexa voice assistant and it also supports Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit. LG pitches this as ideal for action movies and sports, although it should also be ideal for gaming where the slightest bit of unintended blur can spoil the experience.
