"Deserve Oscar Nomination", Says Anupam Kher On Manmohan Singh Film

As several state units of Congress wrote to makers of the film demanding it be screened for clearance by the party, Kher stated that the film is based on facts as chronicled in a book by Sanjaya Baru- Manmohan Singh's media advisor between 2004 and 2008.

Directed by Vijay Gutte, The Accidental Prime Minister provides an intimate look of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his functioning during his tenure. The film, which is slated to release on January 11, features Anupam Kher, Akshaye Khanna, German actress Suzanne Bernert, Aahana Kumra and Arjun Mathur in lead roles.

The Accidental Prime Minister trailer has been out! So those who are protesting should suggest my name for the Oscars, for being so close to Dr Manmohan Singh.

Congress leaders said propaganda against the party would not work and the truth shall prevail.

This evoked strong reactions from journalists and opposition leaders, with many asking if the BJP had financed the film to extract the electoral advantage in the election year.

We must say, it's Anupam Kher and Akshaye Khanna who emerge as show-stealers and keep you hooked.

The war of words has been making a row over the film as Congress claims the film is BJP's latest propaganda to win 2019 polls by portraying Gandhis especially Sonia Gandhi as a villain. BJP's official Twitter handle has shared a link to the trailer.

The trailer also shows glimpses of hard episodes in Manmohan Singh's tenure, mostly internal churnings in the Congress.

Kher also referred to Congress president Rahul Gandhi's recent statement that freedom of expression is a fundamental right.

National Conference leader Omar Abdullah also tweeted on the trailer of the movie, saying, "Can't wait for when they make The Insensitive Prime Minister".

Mumbai: Soon after the trailer of the biopic "The Accidental Prime Minister" based on former prime minister Manmohan Singh's years in office was released, it has created a furore in the political fraternity. "So I think he should scold these people and tell them they are doing wrong".
