Full Interview: Prime Minister Theresa May

Parliament is midway through a five-day debate on the Brexit deal, ahead of the crunch vote that will define Britain's departure from the European Union and could determine May's own future as leader.

"If the prime minister asked for a few days I'm sure the House of Commons would be happy to give the prime minister a few more days".

"We now think the chances of both a no-deal Brexit (10%) and that of the current/similar deal being passed (50%) have fallen and that the probability of remaining in the EU/EEA solution (40%) has risen", Buckley and his team said.

Those calling for a second referendum "want that because they hope there is going to be a different answer - I don't think that's right", she said.

Meanwhile an ERG source said members of the Privy Council - senior MPs and former ministers - had been invited to a briefing with the Cabinet Office's Civil Contingencies Secretariat to be told about the potential impact of a no-deal Brexit.

The opposition Labour Party has said that it will immediately call a vote of no confidence in May's government if the Brexit deal is rejected.

In legal advice the government was forced to publish on Wednesday, the government's top lawyer warned there was a risk Britain could get stuck in "protracted and repeating rounds of negotiations" to reach a deal to supersede the backstop.

A powerful intervention in defense of May's plan from the grandson of another Tory prime minister.

The advice, from Attorney General Geoffrey Cox, the country's top law officer, examines the legal effect of the proposed backstop arrangement, or Northern Ireland protocol, which is a fallback measure created to maintain an invisible border in Ireland.

Ministers are expected to set out today how this will be done.

In one potential concession, May said she recognised that there were concerns among lawmakers about the so-called Northern Irish backstop and she was looking at whether parliament could be given a greater role in deciding whether to trigger it. But the defeat demonstrated the fragility of May's government, which does not have a majority in Parliament.

Neu product manager Richard Phillips-Kerr said: "The government and party whips are compelling MPs to vote 'on behalf of their constituents" when considering the PM's deal.

European Union leaders will hold crisis talks within 48 hours if the Brexit deal is rejected by British MPs, Yahoo Finance UK has learned.

Labour's shadow Brexit secretary Sir Keir Starmer said the finding of contempt was "a badge of shame" for the government, with "huge constitutional and political significance".

The government tried to prevent the full legal advice being published, and MPs found the government in contempt of parliament for refusing a demand to do so.

A group of 30 constituencies backed no deal, while only two chose the deal the Prime Minister has put before parliament.

Liberal Democrat leader Sir Vince Cable repeated calls for a second European Union referendum, saying: "Theresa May's majority has evaporated and the credibility of her deal is evaporating with it".

Under the Withdrawal Agreement, the backstop would be introduced if a trade deal had not been agreed by both sides by the time the transition period ends in December 2020. She now looks set to lose that vote.

"And that's why it's important that ministers are out speaking with communities across the United Kingdom today about how the deal works for them".

"And with my whole heart I commend this motion to the House".

Both opponents and allies alike have spent days criticising the agreement, especially the backstop, meant to ensure there is no return to a hard border between British-ruled Northern Ireland and EU-member Ireland.
