Sir Elton and John Lewis unite in Christmas advert

We received confirmation earlier this year that Elton John would both star in and perform the song for the famous advert this Christmas, with insiders revealing it would tell the story of the star's life.

Rumours around the festive campaign are rife, with Radio X presenter Chris Moyles last week creating a spoof ad featuring the John song Rocket Man.

Craig Inglis, Partner and Customer Director, John Lewis & Partners said: "Think back to all of the Christmases that you have enjoyed over the years - I'm sure there is one very special gift that stands out above all others".

The advert is titled "The Boy & The Piano" and chronicles Elton's life from childhood where he actually gets his very first piano all the way to the present day.

The ad will first air on TV this evening at 9.15pm on ITV during Dark Heart. We are so ready to step into Christmas...

John Lewis's Christmas advert has become a staple of the festive season, with many pronouncing the start of celebrations when they see it. Especially for fans of the legendary Elton John.

The shop, along with 14 further shops across the United Kingdom, will also have a Yamaha piano for customers to play.

This year's ad is called The Boy And The Piano, and features singer-songwriting legend Elton John, performing his classic Your Song throughout his career. However, the retailer says that figure is "wildly inaccurate" and that spend on the ad is broadly similar to previous years.

One said: "canny believe I'm saying this but The John Lewis advert is legit the least Christmassy thing I've ever seen it's just an advert for Elton johns new film?"

"When first approached to be part of it though, Elton requested that a portion of his fee was to be donated to the Elton John Charitable Trust".
