Bryce Harper Won't Be Signing With Yankees

Bryce Harper Won't Be Signing With Yankees

"I'm comfortable with the alternative (to signing Harper)", Rizzo said Tuesday.

Harper rejected a 10-year offer worth $300 million from the Nationals late this past season.

"He's shown the type of player he is, and now he's a grizzled veteran, " Rizzo said.

As the Major League Baseball offseason gets underway, perhaps the most prized free agent of all time, Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper, is now on the open market.

Without casting doubt on any of these reports, it's important to remember how quickly things can change in free-agency, especially as we approach the Winter Meetings, which will begin on December 9 in Harper's hometown of Las Vegas.

While Harper could be exploring other options, it's still possible he might return to the Nationals. That would mean a trade to either the Los Angeles Dodgers or Angels. The Nationals wanted to lock up their star, but Harper felt $30 million per year for the next decade wasn't enough money. For years now, Boras has been selling Harper as a talent so rare he could command more than $400 million, and when presented with that number this week, he joked, "Why be so limiting?" It may not have been.

Putting Harper at first would allow the Yankees to keep their outfield intact and most importantly, keep Aaron Judge in right field. For those of you without a math degree, $35 million per year over a 13-year period would be $455 million.

Harper's contract season of 2018 was a mixed bag.

All signs point to Bryce Harper leaving Washington this offseason.

The six-time All-Star has hit 184 home runs and driven in 521 RBI over his seven-year career. That would make them seem like an unlikely landing spot for Harper, but Castillo reports that they offered Puig as part of a trade for Harper.
