Blizzard announces 'Diablo Immortal' for Android and iOS

Right now, all we know is that Diablo Immortals is coming soon.

In a move that probably very little people saw coming Blizzard announced the new Diablo project is titled Diablo: Immortal and it will be coming to mobile devices. I played Diablo Immortal at BlizzCon shortly after it was revealed, and it's a lot of fun.

When rumors started surfacing that Blizzard had a big Diablo announcement prepped for its annual convention, fans naturally prepared themselves for the next game in the franchise: Diablo 4. Same goes for the gameplay trailer below, showing the basic mobile controls and UI on top of what looks like a rehash of Diablo 3.

Described as a "full-fledged action RPG you can play everywhere with everyone", It's now being developed in collaboration with NetEase.

Diablo was for much of its life a PC-only franchise.

Set during the twenty years between Diablo II and Diablo III, Diablo Immortal will tell stories about Tyrael, Deckard Cain, and other familiar franchise characters. Diablo: Immortal was developed from the ground up as a stand-alone mobile experience.

That's unexpected, to be sure, but Diablo Immortal promises to be more than just a watered-down tablet version of the original trilogy. Players will be able to team up with others in open area locales, but the game will also feature more than a few instanced dungeons.

IGN will have multiple interviews with Blizzard developers throughout the weekend and will update this story with any official comment we receive regarding fan reactions or the similarities to Endless of God.

In addition, mobile gaming is massive in Asia and Activision Blizzard is likely trying to appeal to that region. And, true enough, the onstage announcement showed off Barbarian, Crusader, Demon Hunter, Necormancer, Wizard and Monk classes. Blizzard has not yet announced a release date for the title. Heck, we might even see some classes (and class abilities) that have never been in a Diablo game.
