Video appears to show Khashoggi's 'body double' leaving Saudi consulate

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Sunday that he would reveal details of the investigation on Tuesday, even as Saudi officials sought to head off growing criticism of the murder.

The kingdom's announcement comes two days after acknowledging that the Washington Post writer was killed October 2 at the consulate under disputed circumstances.

"We are determined to punish those who are responsible for this murder", foreign minister Adel al-Jubeir told Fox News's Brett Baier on Sunday. It's undeniable that MBS has behaved with wanton irresponsibility-his kidnapping of the Lebanese prime minister; his preposterous and damaging overreaction to a critical tweet by the Canadian foreign minister; his badly waged war in Yemen.

There have also been calls for sanctions against Riyadh.

However, the new narrative - that Khashoggi was accidentally strangled after a brawl erupted between him and officials inside the consulate - was greeted with scepticism and condemnation from the worldwide community. The friend spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of repercussion.

The images, which were published by CNN on Monday, show the decoy leaving the Saudi consulate in Istanbul by the back door, wearing Mr Khashoggi's clothes, a fake beard, and glasses, in the hours after he was killed.

Yeni Safak cited no source for the information.

Saudi Arabia said on Saturday that Khashoggi was involved in "a physical confrontation, which resulted in his death".

Saudi Arabia did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday.

The employee said the prosecutors asked them whether something "extraordinary" happened on October 2 in the consulate or if they saw Khashoggi and 15 other Saudis, how long they were employed in the consulate, where they are from and the working hours of the staff.

It added 18 Saudis were arrested in connection with his death and two top aides of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as well as three other intelligence agents, were fired.

Madani's role as an alleged Khashoggi body double is the latest in the evolving investigation into the killing.

"Only when all European nations are in agreement will this make an impression on Riyadh", he said, speaking on public television.

"But if you have other countries to decline in addition to the full application of Iran sanctions, then we will be pulling all spare capacities", Falih said.

One member of the 15-man team suspected in the death of Jamal Khashoggi dressed up in his clothes and was captured on surveillance cameras around Istanbul on the day the journalist was killed, a senior Turkish official has told CNN.

A separate report by newspaper Yeni Safak said that Maher Abdulaziz Mutreb, a member of Prince Mohammed's entourage on trips to the United States, France and Spain this year, made the calls from the consulate.

In the days after Khashoggi vanished, Saudi officials initially claimed that he had left the consulate, implying premeditation on the part of the Saudi team. The kingdom finally acknowledged his death early Saturday in what it described as a "fistfight".

The latest account includes details on how 15 Saudis sent to confront Khashoggi had threatened him with being drugged and kidnapped and killed him in a chokehold when he resisted.
