Samsung Galaxy Book2 arrives with Snapdragon 850 and Gigabit LTE

Samsung on Thursday announced its second generation Galaxy Book, a Windows-powered 2-in-1 that looks an terrible lot like Microsoft's latest Surface device. The dimensions of the Samsung Book 2 are also similar with a 12-inch display with a presumably kindred weight metric. More controversially, perhaps, Samsung has dumped Intel's silicon for Qualcomm's ARM-based Snapdragon 850 chipset.

We got a few hours to fiddle around with the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 just after the unveiling and while we can't jump to conclusions just yet, we did get a fair idea of what's there in store for the potential buyers.

To recall, the tablet was introduced in August this year and the tablet major highlight is the inclusion of S Pen and support for Samsung DeX. There's a new Standalone mode, with which one can enjoy a PC-like interface even without a monitor or the "Book Cover" Keyboard. Typical of Samsung's Windows devices, the Galaxy Book 2 comes in a fairly bland silver. Thanks to this SoC and built-in gigabit LTE radio, it allows the Galaxy Book 2 to always stay connected to the internet. In effect, this will allow Samsung, and any manufacturer that buys the company's OLED panels, to create a truly bezel-less device sans notch. Today, we get the second-generation Galaxy Book2, and it sees a switch away from Intel. At ₹57,900, it's quite close to what a MacBook Air with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage costs in the country, and Samsung is likely to find it hard to move many units from retail shelves.

Accessory-wise, the PC comes with an S Pen and keyboard periphery bundled together with purchase. Adaptive Fast Charging, meanwhile, promises swifter recharging, too. The storage is expandable by up to 400 GB using a microSD card.

And as you can guess from where this device will be sold, it does feature LTE connectivity. The Galaxy Book 2 will cost $999.99 when it launches on November 2, including in stores at AT&T in the USA with Sprint and Verizon stores to follow later this year. The speaker delivers high quality sound, has eight microphones to be able to pick up voice commands from across the room. Samsung also has Wacom support in the Galaxy Tab S4, so it should work well for creators/artists especially with the S Pen.
