‘Captain Marvel,’ Marvel’s first female led superhero film, debuts its first trailer

Captain Marvel, whose real name is Carol Danvers, is based on the Marvel Comics character.

Recently, we were all hoping for the outside chance that our first official look at Captain Marvel, which came by way of Entertainment Weekly, would bring us a trailer and finally let us see this character, and movie, in action.

"This is not a superhero who's ideal or otherworldly or has some godlike connection", Boden told EW.

"You have this Kree part of her that's unemotional, that is an fantastic fighter and competitive", Larson told the magazine.

Captain Marvel, which also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, and Clark Gregg, opens on March 8, 2019.

So much for the fan theory that a line of dialogue in Captain America: Civil War pointed to the events of Captain Marvel unfolding in 1997. "I know a renegade solider when I see one". Even the pager-like device that appeared in the post-credit scene of Avengers: Infinity War is seen briefly.

Most of the trailer takes place on Earth but we do get a few very quick glimpses of the rest of the universe too. Larson is in disguise in plain clothes with a hat on.

"Captain Marvel" tells the story of Carol Danvers, a former Air Force pilot turned alien super-soldier, as she explores her past and simultaneously becomes the galaxy's most powerful Avenger, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Could Fury start out as a cop at the beginning of Captain Marvel and then find himself ready to quit after having his first brush with aliens? The two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are, of course, observing an alien autopsy (presumably unrelated to Alien Autopsy: Fact or Fiction, broadcast on Fox in 1995).

On a more practical level, the introduction of Brie Larson as a potential new leader of the Avengers solves problems thrown up by the end of contractual agreements with the franchise's biggest names. That's how you know it's set in the '90s! "We can't do this alone", he narrates, "we need you". That's right, most likely that sweet little old lady isn't a sweet little old lady at all, but a Skrull in disguise and Captain Marvel has sniffed her out.
