'Game of Thrones,' 'Mrs. Maisel' triumph at Emmys

Donald Glover may be one of today's most notable stars, but he showed up at the Emmys on Monday night looking nearly unrecognizable.

"Rachel Brosnahan topped many handicappers" lists as the probable victor in the comedy lead actress category.

Emmy-winning director Glenn Weiss, left, turned his acceptance speech into a proposal to his girlfriend Jan Svendsen. Peter Dinklage took home the best supporting actor prize for his portrayal of Tyrion Lannister.

HBO's "Game of Thrones" was named best drama series, beating last year's champion 'The Handmaid's Tale'. For supporting actress, maybe it was case of splitting the vote, but none of the three women of Gilead took home the trophy, despite two of them winning Emmys past year.

Other big winners included "The Assassination of Gianni Versace", for best limited series and actor Darren Criss, who played the gay serial killer who murdered the Italian designer in Miami in 1997. But despite having five more actors nominated across the supporting categories (Edgar Ramirez, Ricky Martin and Finn Wittrock for the men; Judith Light and Penelope Cruz for the women), it did not take either of those categories.

Then Regina King broke the string, with a best actress win in a limited series or movie for "Seven Seconds", which tracks the fallout from a white police officer's traffic accident involving a black teenager. Earlier this year, the series won two Golden Globes.

Series star Rachel Brosnahan was honoured as best comedy actress, Alex Borstein earned the supporting trophy and the series creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, nabbed writing and directing awards.

In the emerging battle of traditional networks vs new platforms, streaming giant Netflix ended HBO´s 17-year streak of leading the Emmy nominations, with 112 to the premium cable network´s 108. The ink appears to be very real and while it's not known when she got the tattoo, this is the first time she's debuted it on a red carpet.
