Sarri Concedes Chelsea Not Title Contenders This Season

Sarri Concedes Chelsea Not Title Contenders This Season

"We are not as solid as I want in the defensive phase".

Chelsea are in action at home to Cardiff City on Saturday but Sarri believes they are still a long way from title contenders despite four wins out of four so far.

The Blues are now preparing to welcome the Welsh side to Stamford Bridge as Maurizio Sarri's men look to continue their fine start to the new campaign.

"The last time I have spoken with him, he told me that he wants to play for another season".

Maurizio Sarri is open to the prospect of John Terry joining his coaching staff at Chelsea but fears the club's former captain is intent upon playing for another season before he turns his attention to life in the dug-out.

"Am I very relaxed?"

Cardiff have picked up just two points from their opening four Premier League games and are one of five teams still without a win.

Chelsea are favourites to maintain their flawless start to the league season at Stamford Bridge against Neil Warnock's men, who are winless in their opening four games. Cesc Fabregas is returning to full fitness but won't be ready to play this weekend.

While promoted Cardiff are yet to win this season, Sarri said they will provide a tough test.

Chelsea travel to Greece later this week to play PAOK in the first round of the Europa League, before travelling across London to take on West Ham.

The defender admitted the fact that there is a lot of pressure associated with playing for a club like Chelsea, while also claiming that it was the same pressure that helped them win the Champions League in 2012.

"At the moment I can answer Manchester City or Liverpool", the Italian Sarri, was quoted as saying, while revealing the teams he thinks were true title contenders.

"My target is to be the best team in England but not in one month, maybe one season, maybe a little more, but that is our target".

"Manchester City and Liverpool are another step up to us but I think we can improve".

"I think in the coaching staff, I think".
