Obama launches stinging attack on Trump

"Each time we've gotten closer to those ideals, somebody somewhere pushes back". Obama said: "How hard can that be? Not follow them. We're supposed to stand up to discrimination, and we're sure as heck supposed to stand up clearly and unequivocally to Nazi sympathizers", Obama said, in comments Pirro slammed as "a full-throttle savage attack on the president".

"When there is a vacuum in our democracy, when we don't vote, when we take our basic rights and freedoms for granted, the politics of fear and resentment and retrenchment takes hold".

"They'll promise to clean up corruption and then plunder away", he said.

"They're undermining our alliances, cosying up to Russian Federation".

Meanwhile, Michelle Obama is also stepping up her political involvement ahead of the November midterm election.

"When you hear how great the economy's doing right now, let's just remember when this recovery started", Obama said at the University of IL.

"Obama is a great messenger to get them to vote for Democrats", Pfeiffer said.

Obama's remarks came as he accepted the Paul H. Douglas Award for Ethics in Government from the University of IL system's Institute of Government and Public Affairs.

Former President Barack Obama attends a campaign event Saturday in Anaheim, California, for Democratic congressional candidates.

He also nodded to modern progressive policies by saying that "we need more women in charge" in America.

Both parties are urging their core supporters to get to the polls for the November 6 midterm elections, when Democrats need to pick up 23 seats in the House of Representatives and two seats in the Senate to gain majorities in Congress and slam the brakes on Trump's agenda. "I found he's very good - very good for sleeping", he said.

Speaking at the University of IL where he accepted an award for ethics in government, Obama foreshadowed the themes he is expected to take to the campaign trail in the coming weeks while stumping for Democrats before the November midterm elections. He will also campaign this month in IL and Pennsylvania, and will headline a fundraiser for the National Democratic Redistricting Committee in New York City.

Obama's campaign activity will continue through October and will include fundraising appearances, according to an Obama adviser.

"What's gonna fix our democracy is you", he said.

The former president also criticized the claims of an anonymous New York Times op-ed, which said many staffers are "working diligently from within" to keep Trump from enacting damaging policies. The outcome will decide control of Congress and three dozen gubernatorial contests.

Analysts say Obama's post-presidential star status among Democrats will help drive turnout among African-American, Latino and young voters in key suburban House districts and cities.

Obama's office announced his first round of endorsements earlier this year and the official said his second round will be released in coming weeks. "You and your vote".
