MTV's Hot Takes :: Cleveland Browns With Best Start Since 2004

"Did not want them going home without a victory". Yes, you heard that right. But how exactly did this all happen?

Steelers cornerback Joe Haden, formerly of the Browns, broke up a pass to Gordon in the end zone with 3:42 left in the third quarter. A fair question for the star running back to pose as he watched understudy James Conner race for 135 rushing yards and two total touchdowns while also coughing up a fumble.

Two more interceptions by Roethlisberger would define the rest of the half for the Steelers' offense.

Pittsburgh committed six turnovers, including a strip-sack fumble ofRoethlisberger late in OT that had the Browns poised to win their first opener since 2004. The Browns were at the Steelers 43 when Taylor heaved a deep pass for Gordon. This lead to the Steelers holding onto that 7-0 lead heading into the locker room break.

DeSean Jackson caught scoring passes of 58 and 36 yards to highlight his five-catch, 146-yard day before leaving with a concussion.

The stat line for Tyrod Taylor in his debut for the Cleveland Browns looks pretty bad. They put together a frantic offensive flurry in the fourth quarter.

Josh Gordon made just one catch - one mesmerizing, jaw-dropping, game-tying catch.

Jackson said the snap count did not surprise him, but he called the first snap "miscommunication" and "a mistake". Despite another fumble by Pittsburgh in their own territory on the very next drive, Cleveland could not add any points to the board.

Gordon finished the game with three targets and only one reception, a 17-yard touchdown that knotted the score and sent the game into overtime.

Apparently, Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley, the team's new play-caller, were not on the same page about which personnel package the Browns would use on their first play from scrimmage. This was the moment, the chance for the pain of Cleveland fans everywhere to rejoice in their first win in years. Taylor completed 15-of-40 passes for 197 yards one touchdown and one interception.

It was the league's first Week 1 tie since 1971, and the first time in 133 games the Browns and Steelers couldn't settle their rivalry on the field. Once again, they went three-and-out, and this time, they had another special-teams gaffe. Chris Boswell and Zane Gonzales each missed a field goal in overtime.

Speaking of beast mode, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt recorded four sacks and had eight tackles.

The Steelers should have won the game going away; instead, they let Cleveland hang around through mistakes and sloppy play, and as a result they opened the regular season with a tie for the first time in franchise history.
