Xiaomi launches sub-brand Poco to tap into India's premium smartphone mkt

With POCO F1, the company brings nearly all the latest features available under the sun, to this new smartphone.

POCO F1 is mobilized with heightened security that lets users set a pin, add a fingerprint, and enable the face unlock component. The Poco F1 is no different and is powered by Snapdragon 845, Qualcomm's flagship chipset that powers industry giants like Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy S9 and OnePlus 6.

MIUI for Poco also comes with auto app category, where the launcher will automatically categorize the app depending on the functionality.

The camera combination given on the POCO F1 is a dual-lens one on the back where a 12-megapixel primary sensor (Sony IMX 363 sensor) is assisted by a 5-megapixel one for the depth sensing.

Poco F1 comes with big 4,000mAh battery, which is enough to last a whole day if not more under mixed usage. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack along with a USB-C port for charging.

The most expensive model (Armored Edition), which still doesn't reach $500, will also offer a Kevlar back with an exposed fiber weave. The super-tough, heat-resistant material is widely used in the aviation industry, the military, and high-end cycling.

The price of the Poco F1 and its variants have been listed below. Speaking of which, the POCO F1 comes in three color options - Graphite Black, Steel Blue and Rosso Red. The base variant that offers 6GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage costs Rs 20,999, the 6GB of 128GB storage version costs Rs 23,999 and the 8GB of RAM and 256GB internal storage variant is priced at Rs 28,999. POCO F1 will go on sale on mi.com and Flipkart on 29th August 2018, starting at 12 PM. For launch offers, the company has partnered with Jio to provide benefits worth Rs. 8000 and up to 6TB extra data for users who use a Jio SIM card in the phone. The Poco F1 has three variants - 6GB RAM + 64GB ROM, 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM and 8GB RAM + 256GB ROM.

The Poco F1 is a ridiculously well priced smartphone with a starting price of Rs. 20,999 ( Rs. 1000 cash back for HDFC card holders) with great specifications that will trouble a lot of other brands.

The Poco F1 comes with a notched display which can be turned off at will. Of course plastic is cheaper than glass to manufacture, so it plays into the lower price point.

The phone will ship with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with the MIUI on top. The version with the most powerful specs has a price of $430 and it comes with more RAM and storage. It doesn't make for the prettiest device, but with official skins and cases available, it's not the end of the world.

Xiaomi has a new smartphone brand in India known as Poco and its first smartphone is the Poco F1, which has just been unveiled in the country.

The smartphone features a face unlock feature with an IR sensor which is more secure than the front-facing camera dependent face lock.
