Trump urges Sessions to end Russian Federation investigation

Giuliani also said Monday that "the odds are against" a Trump interview with Mueller, but that he "wouldn't be shocked" if the President went through with it because he "wants to do it so badly".

But Trump's lawyers fear Mueller's team will lead the president to incriminate himself, particularly on potential obstruction of justice, one of the lines of investigation by the special counsel.

This was Trump's most direct demand yet that Sessions, who infuriated the president by recusing himself from the investigation, intervene to end the probe.

"This is a awful situation and Attorney General Jeff Sessions should stop this Rigged Witch Hunt right now, before it continues to strain our country any further", read Trump's tweet on Wednesday, August 1.

In a reference to the special prosecutor who is heading-up the Russian Federation probe, the president added: "Bob Mueller is totally conflicted, and his 17 Angry Democracts that are doing his dirty work are a disgrace to the United States of America!"

Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., a former prosecutor, said Trump's tweets Wednesday could help build a case of obstruction of justice against him.

Though Trump has questioned whether Russian Federation was involved in the 2016 election, national intelligence director Dan Coats said, "We continue to see a pervasive messaging campaign by Russian Federation to try to weaken and divide the United States".

Responding to wide-ranging criticism it lacked a clear national strategy to protect US elections, the White House said Thursday that President Donald Trump has directed a "vast, government-wide effort" to protect the cornerstone of USA democracy.

"It's the president's opinion", she said.

The Trump legal team is open to Mueller interviewing Trump with questions related to "an area of collusion, not obstruction", Giuliani said on Monday.

National Security Adviser John Bolton says President Donald Trump has directed a "vast, government-wide effort" to protect American elections after Russian attempts to interfere in 2016.

Trump has repeatedly denied that his campaign colluded with Russian Federation. "Ongoing obstruction of justice in real time right before our eyes-as Trump's tweets add mounting evidence of criminal intent".

Manafort served as Trump's campaign chief from May to August 2016 and the president asked Wednesday: "why didn't government tell me that he was under investigation".

Trump's attorney Rudy Giuliani recently offered up this argument on Fox & Friends: "I've been sitting here looking in that federal code trying to find collusion as a crime".

"We continue to see a pervasive messaging campaign by Russian Federation to try to weaken and divide the United States", Coats said Thursday from the White House briefing room.

Peter Carr, spokesman for the special counsel's office, declined to comment on Trump's Twitter post.

Aras Agalarov had told a pal, the music producer Rob Goldstone, that Veselnitskaya had "information that would incriminate" Clinton, and Goldstone wrote in an email to Trump Jr. on June 3, 2016, requesting a meeting.

Their comments during a White House briefing came after Trump publicly undermined the conclusions of US intelligence agencies regarding Russian interference.

"I've said all along I see no evidence of collusion".

"It would be far better if the President refrained from commenting and for Mr. Mueller to continue his investigation, which so far already has 30 indictments, including Russian nationalists", she said on Capitol Hill. I think that would've been a much clearer, much bolder statement to be able to confront him.
