Cohen Tapes Erase Attorney-Client Privilege, 'Indication of a Fraud'

Cohen Tapes Erase Attorney-Client Privilege, 'Indication of a Fraud'

"I need to open up a company for the transfer of all that info regarding our friend David", Cohen says. Trump seems to say, "Pay with cash", but Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani released a transcript in which he alleges Trump says: "Don't pay with cash". (AMI), which owns the National Enquirer. Trump on Wednesday suggested the tape was cut just as he was "presumably saying positive things", although there was no evidence of that.

-Trump was going off about an NBC story before a VFW audience when he said, "Don't believe the crap you see from these people-the fake news".

Cohen says he's already spoken with the Trump Organization's finance chief, Allen Weisselberg, on "how to set the whole thing up".

By burying Ms. McDougal's story during the campaign in a practice known in the tabloid industry as "catch and kill", A.M.I. protected Mr. Trump from negative publicity that could have harmed his election chances, spending money to do so.

Trump can then be heard saying the word "cash" but because of the muddled audio, it is unclear what precedes it.

The government seized at last 12 audio tapes from Cohen, Trump's former longtime lawyer, a court filing on Monday revealed.

President Donald Trump's legal troubles with his former lawyer Michael Cohen took another, damaging twist on Thursday when Michael Avenatti, the attorney for porn star Stormy Daniels, alleged that multiple women had been paid off, and that Trump may even have covered up a pregnancy.

The payment was never made and Mr Giuliani said he didn't know why that was the case and hadn't discussed it with Mr Trump.

The tape doesn't prove McDougal's allegations of an affair and at no point in the recording does Trump acknowledge whether he had a sexual relationship with McDougal.

Trump's personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, confirmed to The Times that Trump discussed payments to McDougal with Cohen, but he said that ultimately no payment was made.

And per the Wall Street Journal, this particular Cohen conversation was with none other than CNN's Chris Cuomo.

If Trump's lawyers really did waive privilege on the Cohen/McDougal recording so that Giuliani could spin it to the press, it was, in my view, a blunder.

Cohen's lawyer, Lanny Davis, told the Post that his client didn't make the recordings for any nefarious or untoward purposes.

The president did not name Cohen or harshly criticize him, but instead offered a series of questions about the recording. If he winds up in investigators' crosshairs for secreting payoffs, he could potentially provide much more damaging information to prosecutors than Cohen ever could about the president's dealmaking.
