ESPYs Host Danica Patrick Falls Flat in Opening Monologue

Simmons' relationship with supermodel Kendall Jenner has turned into one of the more spectacular celebrity relationships in the NBA, with the two being spotted on numerous dates since the Sixers' NBA season ended in May at the hands of the Boston Celtics.

Danica will also be making history as the first woman ever to host the show - a change she tells ABC News is long overdue. Making a joke about his receding hairline didn't make for great television. It's not all bad, though.

"You got to call out the elephant in the room?"

"The Golden State Warriors once again won the NBA Finals", Patrick said.

Patrick did score with a few jokes. While Kimmel says she should, Patrick seems to disagree. Ovechkin's photo was replaced with one of Russian president Vladimir Putin, drawing laughs. "Who does he think he is? Me?"

So, with Danica Patrick hosting this year's show, which aired on Wednesday, there was plenty of intrigue as to how she'd do in the role.

Patrick fared better in a taped spoof of the movie "I, Tonya", renamed "I, Danica".

Patrick's boyfriend, Aaron Rodgers, makes an appearance in this film, too.

Also getting laughs was a bit in which Patrick was joined onstage by a young girl, part of "Dani-Kids" which Patrick explained was a program to help young kids achieve their dreams.
