England's Kane misses out on golden shot at World Cup title

Jubilant Croatian fans honked their vehicle horns and let off fireworks after their national football team beat England 2-1 in extra time Wednesday to clinch a place in the World Cup finals against France.

Italy's Massimiliano Irrati will be the video assistant referee for the final, with American Mark Geiger serving as VAR for the third-place game.

I mean, this is some Tami/Coach Taylor level support right here, so it's no surprise that people were SHOOK. But we will make sure we are ready to go again because the group have huge pride in their performances.

England fans at the Snooty Fox in Gareth's home town were in fine voice during the game - you can see the video above.

"It's not something I'm really thinking about", he said.

This isn't the first time the England set up has been investigated by Federation Internationale de Football Association this World Cup either.

"We were saying, "OK, today we will see who will be tired". It's unbelievable that Croatia have come this far with one of the oldest squads in the tournament, but as Luka Modric has proved time and again this summer, there's many a good tune played on an old fiddle.

In defeat, Southgate's side became the first team to lose a World Cup semifinal after leading at half-time. And we won a knockout game. I've looked at it every day since - and it was the first thing I looked at when we got back this morning.

"But equally we want to be a team that's hitting quarter-finals, semi-finals, finals - that was what we've aimed to do in the long term and we've proved that is possible".

The game: "You have to be proud of the second half and extra-time. As proceedings are ongoing, please understand we can not comment further at this stage". "England had never overachieved, but this team have in reaching the semi-final.", Neville, a pundit on ITV, said.

He said: "I just feel I can get better all the time".

Numerous photos show the players embracing Southgate.

England now meet Belgium in the third-place playoff on Saturday while Croatia take on France on Sunday for football's most precious prize.
