Rashford misses England training

England fly to Russian Federation next week unencumbered by the usual great expectations, with manager Gareth Southgate promising a complete break from previous tournaments when they seldom lived up to their billing.

The 20-year-old Manchester United forward turned in a man-of-the-match performance in England's final warm-up friendly against Costa Rica but looks set for a place on the bench in Monday's Group G opener against Tunisia in Volgograd.

Rashford delivered a man-of-the-match display in England's final pre-World Cup friendly against Costa Rica at Elland Road last week, scoring a stunning opening goal from range for just his third global strike after 19 caps.

"Thanks for the messages I've been getting", Rashford posted on Twitter. Instead, Southgate will rely on selfless players such as Jordan Henderson, and Eric Dier.

"I said to all of the team before the game: 'I expect to see mistakes tonight and if I don't there'd probably be a problem because we won't be trying to be as good as we might'".

"I've bounced back now - and while I will be extremely jealous I will be watching Gareth and the lads and hope they do extremely well", he said.

England have an open training session between 09:30 and 10:30 (BST) in St Petersburg.

The team checked in at the forRestMix Club on Tuesday evening, meaning players have yet to do anything other than rest and train.

"As a kid you want to play in the biggest tournaments and I am as excited as anyone out there". We have got to keep wanting to improve. "We were in the hotel and training this morning".

Kane further revealed that England, who are famous for their awful record in shootouts, would look to play the attacking game and focus more on scoring.

Even now I can see Ray Houghton breaking Italian hearts with a divine goal to give an unfancied Republic of Ireland side an unlikely victory over eventual finalists Italy, whilst Romanian legend Gheorghe Hagi was simply majestic in my young eyes back in 1994 and to this day his quality during that tournament remain imprinted in my mind.

"I think it's one of the most European cities in Russian Federation, so I am looking forward to seeing the city".

Kane, though, told the English daily newspapers this is not the case with the present group under Gareth Southgate - as many of them have played with each other at Under-21 level.
