Germany vs South Korea

Reports of discord within the camp emerged after the reigning champions lost their opening Group F match against Mexico, and they appeared to be heading for the brink of elimination when drawing against Sweden.

Sweden or Germany advance with a win combined with a loss or draw by the other.

Son has clearly been one of the top players on a team that's struggled on the pitch during the World Cup.

Javier Hernández said on Tuesday that a buoyant Mexico want to "accomplish the impossible" and win the World Cup in Russian Federation on the eve of their clash with Sweden.

Germany coach Joachim Low has insisted that the world champions need Mesut Ozil if they are to progress through the World Cup. Identical records would then see qualification decided by the better result when the teams met, which would see Germany go through courtesy of their 2-1 win.

A defeat would have sent Germany packing, but Toni Kroos' sumptuous late strike saw them move level on three points with Sweden.

With the win, Germany earned a crucial three points towards surviving into the knockout round of the tournament. It would only be possible if Germany, South Korea and Sweden all finished tied on points, and Germany either had a better fair-play score or got lucky in a lottery.

Last time out Germany were down to ten men and they still managed to score a last-minute victor against Sweden to fire this group wide open.

Germany will guarantee progress to the knockout phase if they win by two clear goals but they must find a way to counter a South Korea team Loew described as "fast, nimble and risky on the counter-attack".

Despite long odds, Javier Hernández believes that Mexico might win the World Cup. A Serbian draw and a Switzerland loss could still do it for the Serbs, but they would need the Swiss to lose by a few or have a high-scoring draw as the would lose the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Therefore, Germany has a chance against South Korea to really put their stamp on the tournament and show that they are coming good just at the right time.

The Mexicans have repeatedly failed to go beyond the last 16 in recent decades, but the West Ham United striker nicknamed Chicharito wants this time to be different.

"He (Ki) is a key player for our team".

Germany plays at 10 a.m. EDT; Brazil is at 2 p.m. EDT. But it's easily forgotten that Hernandez - who has now scored in three consecutive World Cups - has never gone into the event as a starter for El Tri.

"All I am saying is people behaved in ways you don't, you cheer when you win, you leave the opponents to feel sad, you don't react in the way they did".
