José Giménez late show steals victory for Uruguay over Egypt

Egypt have been boosted by the return to fitness of Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah following the shoulder injury he picked up in the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid, and his performances for his national team have been nothing short of remarkable.

Egypt coach Hector Cuper confirmed the news suggesting that Salah could emerge as one of the tournament's most prolific goalscorers.

He gave Egypt a timely boost by fully recovering from a shoulder injury in time to make the team's squad for the anticipated Group A opener against Uruguay on Friday. Beyond Salah, though, there really is no other obvious outlet for the Egyptians to use that can carry a genuine threat. 68 years after La Celeste last won the World Cup, it would be a major surprise to see Suarez and company go all the way in Russian Federation but they're expected to be present in the latter stages of the competition.

After becoming the first African-born player to score 30 goals in a Premier League season, Salah could be on a trajectory that sees him become just the second African to win a Ballon d'Or.

Egypt is making its first World Cup appearance since 1990 and is eyeing the first World Cup win in its nation's history.

"Salah has three training sessions per day".

Uruguay, meanwhile, are expected to name a youthful midfield featuring 20 year-old Rodrigo Bentancur and Nahitan Nandez, 22. Edinson Cavani scored 10 goals in the CONMEBOL qualifiers for the World Cup. Their first choice centre backs consist of the impeccable Atletico Madrid duo of Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez, and they balance that out with the world class talents of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani up front. Now well over 45, El-Hadary will comfortably beat the existing record of the being the oldest player in FIFA World Cup.

On paper, having Salah fit will go a long way to helping Egypt's chances of going further than the group stage, but Russian Federation and Saudi Arabia will smell blood should he under-perform as a result of an extended spell on the sidelines.

"I don't know about his recovery as it was in the United Kingdom".
