Kim Jong, Trump Commit To Restart Repatriating Remains From North Korea

Donald Trump has become the first United States president to meet and shake hands with a North Korean leader.

The Federal Government has applauded the outcome of the Tuesday's Summit between U. S. President Donald Trump and Chairman Kim Jong Un of Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPPK).

Kim and Trump invited each other to their respective countries and both leaders "gladly accepted", KCNA reported.

The statements emerging from Trump's summit with the North Korean leader have been criticized as vague. "That's going to start very soon".

Trump's diplomacy "sends all the wrong messages to China, North Korea and Russian Federation", said Malcolm Davis, a senior analyst at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute.

It said the two countries would co-operate towards "new relations", while the USA would provide "security guarantees" to North Korea. "It clearly was not part of the declaration and so we have to take the declaration as being the areas of agreement and build on that", Ms Bishop said.

Elias-Fatile stated that the meeting which resulted to the signing of a statement by the two leaders emphasised the establishment of new relationship between them. The details of how and when North Korea would denuclearize as promised appear yet to be determined.

The first concrete action was for the American president to announce he intends to call a halt to the annual war game exercises organised between the United States and South Korea (the most recent exercises almost derailed the inter-Korea summit a few weeks ago). "If our alliances are getting weaker and we're not going to do military exercises, where is the pressure?"

Ending the drills "is in excess of all expert consensus, South Korean requests, and even a close reading of North Korean demands", said Adam Mount of the Federation of American Scientists.

North Korea is believed to possess more than 50 nuclear warheads, with its atomic program spread across more than 100 sites constructed over decades to evade worldwide inspections. "I really don't care how generous we are as long as we don't go too far when it comes to our troop presence".

Republican Senator John Kennedy said, "Kim Jong Un is a butcher, and he is a butcher of his own people".

And as reactions are starting to pour in from world leaders, it is important to remember that the summit has given the DPRK legitimacy on the world stage, while there was little talk of how this legitimacy was acquired: essentially by developing nuclear weapons.

The official newspaper of the Workers' Party of Korea featured 14 photos covering over half of the front page of its issue yesterday, showing a jovial Mr Kim walking with Singapore Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and other Singaporean officials at Gardens by the Bay and Marina Bay Sands hotel. Instead, they specifically deplored his decision to suspend certain joint military exercises with South Korea in exchange for a vague, nonbinding written promise that North Korea would work toward denuclearization. "It was a awful thing, it was brutal, but a lot of people started to focus on what was going on, including North Korea".
