Trump's Chief Economic Adviser Says Justin Trudeau "Stabbed Us in the Back"

Trump's Chief Economic Adviser Says Justin Trudeau

White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow accused Trudeau of betraying Trump with "polarizing" statements on trade policy that risked making the USA leader look weak ahead of a historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

In a pair of tweets, Trump lashed out at his G-7 host, accusing its leader of being dishonest and weak and contending that Canada had taken advantage of USA interests.

The joint statement between the leaders of G7 nations comes after President Trump refused to back down from his decision to impose worldwide tariffs on goods, including steel and aluminum imports.

While airborne, Trump ordered USA officials to refuse to sign the traditional end-of-summit communique and tweeted criticism of what he said were Trudeau's "false statements at his news conference". I mean, we have India, where some of the tariffs are 100 percent. Trudeau's office, in turn, said the what the Canadian leader said on Saturday was nothing new.

Mr. Trump addressed the subject of global trade during an impromptu news conference at the summit on Saturday, saying that he does not want to see other countries take advantage of the United States over trade.

In a mocking tone, Kudlow rattled off the reasons Trudeau offered for his barbed critique of Trump's policies.

United States President Donald Trump said Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is acting hurt, regarding the newly imposed tariffs.

"It was a betrayal", Kudlow said on CNN's "State of the Union".

On Twitter, Mr. Trump called his remarks "very dishonest and weak", citing Canada's imposition of tariffs on dairy products.

Still, other Trump advisers had taken up the attack in appearances on Sunday's news shows, leveling more withering and unprecedented criticism against Trudeau, branding him a back-stabber unworthy of Trump's time.

"What's not in good faith is when you leave there, you fly out of there, and the host Canadian prime minister starts taking whacks at you, pot-shots at you - on the eve of this Korean summit", Kudlow said.

Trudeau, in Quebec City for bilateral meetings with non-G7 leaders after the summit, did not comment as he arrived. "And so we are talking to many countries", Trump said.

Mr Trudeau said: "Canadians, we're polite, we're reasonable but we also will not be pushed around".

And more: "Looking forward to straightening out unfair Trade Deals with the G-7 countries".

Former FBI director James Comey subtly condemned President Donald Trump for attacking Canada, a long-time US ally, and its prime minister, Justin Trudeau.

Kudlow said the USA participated in G7 talks and bilateral talks on Nafta in good faith and that Trump had been "charming".

Before departing for the 44th G7 summit, which is being held in Quebec, Canada, American President Donald Trump called for end to Russian expulsion from G7 grouping.
